Houston – We have reached our 95° degree weather, we step outside and out makeup slides off our face, our deodorant is working overtime and we have a car trunk filled with grocercies, i.e. with our beloved state favorite, Blue Bell. And it’s melting! We become irritable and eventually lose our cool.
I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way, there are ways to stay cool. When you find yourself having a meltdown, don’t panic, enjoy it…head to the nearest pool with cocktails and good book in hand. (Be sure to tote along water as well, hydration is key). Here are a few recommended pools to keep you relaxed, refreshed and restored during these next few months – both indoors and outdoors.
Hotel ZaZa, Houston’s answer to Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel, is a hub for pretty young things and wild antics. Reserve one of the chandelier-and-TV-equipped, outdoor cabanas overlooking the Mecom Fountain; grab a cocktail; or catch some rays atop a chaise lounge. For double the fun, book a pool bungalow suite, which opens directly onto the pool for prime people-watching opportunities.
West Houston’s Hotel Sorella is proof that size doesn’t matter when it comes to pools. The property’s pint-sized oasis may not be lap worthy, but its cabanas and view are certainly popular after dark, thanks to the adjacent Monnalisa Bar. Set on the second floor of the hotel, the pool and lounge overlook the buzzing CityCentre plaza, drawing guests for signature drinks and live music by local bands.
A one-of-a-kind Texas-shaped lazy river, rooftop infinity pool, and special events pavilion overlooking Discovery Green Park establish the Marriott Marquis Houston as a cosmopolitan oasis in the heart of downtown. The 1,000-room hotel also features a full service spa and fitness center, two-story sports bar, and two specialty restaurants.
Explore a refreshing new world of restful comfort at the Westin Houston Memorial City – ranked #7 on the 2014 U.S. News & World Report list of Best Houston Hotels. Conveniently connected to Memorial City Mall in Houston’s vibrant and evolving Memorial City area, at the corner of 1-10 and Gessner. The hotel boasts premium views of the city skyline, extensive meeting spaces, a gym and an 18th-floor infinity pool, which offers panoramic views of Houston’s skyline.
Book a waterside room at League City’s South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center and gain access to the property’s lushly-landscaped, 185-foot pool. Sip on a tropical treat from the resort’s swim-up bar or kick back on one of the palm-tree shaded chaise lounges, before visiting nearby Space Center Houston or the Kemah Boardwalk.
